ACTIVrep is an agency specialised in the intermediation between elite sportsmen and clubs competing in TOP 14, PRO D2, Premiership, Super Rugby, and rugby league.
ACTIVrep was created in 2012 by Maxence Karoutchi. The name appeared obvious when he thought of the agency’s values and positioning.
The part “ACTIV” conveys the ideas of dynamism and determination. Actually, we constantly look for the best solutions and opportunities for our clients but we are also determined to defend their interests (hence the second part “rep” as in representation). At the same time, we seek the optimisation of their results by supporting them daily.
The three dots positioned in the logo represent the three pillars of the work of an agent, and thus the foundation of the ACTIVrep agency: the player – main character at the center of the negotiations. The agent – intermediary between the player and the clubs, as well as the daily support of the players’ career. And finally, the club – third decisive pillar around which all the work of prospection and negotiation makes sense in order to both satisfy the interests of the players and the needs of the clubs.
Finally, the three dots are the main embodiment of the fundamental values of ACTIVrep: integrity, hard work, and determination.
ACTIVrep is a selective agency that works with elite athletes and top level rugby clubs. It is an exclusive agency as it is also the first agency in France that benefits from the dual code, allowing it to work in both rugby union and rugby league. We always work with the objective to respond and live up to our clients’ expectations. It is key for the agency to ensure quality services, made up of the effort and the collective energy of all the agency’s collaborators.
ACTIVrep’s international network allows the agency to work across all the key rugby European markets, including France but also in a broader way across Europe. A RFU agent was recently added to the team in order to confirm the footprint of the agency in the UK. It is equally important to mention that ACTIVrep intervenes and serves among clubs and sportsmen of at least ten different nationalities form Europe, and from America such as Argentina and the United-States. Since 2012, the agency has been involved in over 90 transactions including over 40 players across 33 professional clubs.
MAXENCE KAROUTCHI, FOUNDER AND CEO
Passionate, hard-working, honest, putting his clients’ interests first, and listening to their needs, it is due to his own initiative that the agency was created in 2012.
Maxence obtained his sports agent licence in rugby union (FFR 067) on the same year of the creation of the agency after having taken a post-graduate course in the Marseille campus of KEDGE, Grande Ecole de Commerce et de management. As a real competitor, he took part in national championships for individual sports and felt the will to become a sports agent as young as 15 years old.
He discovered his entrepreneurial spirit during his post-grad in business school. He then created the first department specialised in sports consulting in the junior enterprise Marketing Méditerranée. As part of this activity, he worked along the Sporting Clubs de Toulon and one of their executives – Guillaume Deville, the associations’ president – to elaborate their commercial strategy in search for sponsors.
He took the decision to go and live abroad, first in Madrid and then in Buenos Aires, where he joined the IBM Group. He enhanced his commercial and negotiation training and learned about consultative selling with methods made up from a partnership with Harvard University and Huthwaite International.
Willing to launch his own company, he left IBM in 2010 after having experienced the emergence of social networks. He then decided to train and specialise himself around the opportunities associated with social web in the sports industry. To do so, he writes a research paper with the help of of Lionel Maltese, French sports marketing specialist, and launches a specialised blog called ‘Sportbizinside’. Acknowledged as a specialist of this thematic, he intervened as a consultant for clubs such as Racing Club de Avellaneda and Montpellier Hérault Rugby, as well as part of conferences in South America and France.
The ACTIVrep experience
On the occasion of the obtention of his FFR licence (FFR 067) as well as being a RFL agent (ROA 052), Maxence rapidly positioned himself in the intermediation between French clubs and Argentinian players as well as Italians. Today, the agency has intervened for references among international and French players of very strong potential. In 2014, Maxence became the first agent of both rugby union and rugby league (licence 003). Regarding rugby league, he represents the best French players: William Barthau,Charles Bouzinac, Damien Cardace, Tony Gigot, Mickaël Goudemand, Benjamin Jullien, Antoni Maria, Stan Robin, Gadwin Springer, and Fouad Yaha. They benefit from being exposed in the UK, in Australia as well as they have the security of their interests being defended among professional French clubs.
Maxence pays attention to details and is concerned with his clients’ well-being in his daily activity. He devotes time for them and remains available, making them always the center of his conversations with the clubs. He works relentlessly to satisfy the needs of all parties involved: the clubs and the players. Today, ACTIVrep offers four major areas of expertise: the intermediation, law representation, image management, and professional retraining.
